Common Questions

Questions We Often Hear

We understand that seeking psychiatric care can feel daunting. Here are answers to some of the questions we are most frequently asked.

What should I expect during my first consultation?

Your first consultation is a comprehensive assessment lasting approximately 90 minutes. Dr Rajcoomar will take the time to understand your concerns, medical history, and personal circumstances in a confidential, non-judgemental setting. Together, you will discuss a personalised treatment approach. Follow-up consultations are typically 30 to 60 minutes.

Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist?

While a referral from your general practitioner is not always required, some medical aids may require one for reimbursement. We recommend checking with your medical aid provider. You are welcome to contact our rooms directly to make an appointment.

Is my information kept confidential?

Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of our practice. All consultations and personal information are handled with the strictest confidence in accordance with the Health Professions Act and POPIA.

Do you offer online consultations?

Yes, we offer telepsychiatry (online consultations) via a secure video platform. This is ideal for follow-up appointments or for patients who are unable to attend in person.

What conditions do you treat?

Dr Rajcoomar treats a wide range of psychiatric conditions including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma-related disorders, ADHD (adolescents and adults), personality disorders, psychotic disorders, sleep disorders, eating disorders, and neurocognitive disorders.
