Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry

Integrated Care in Medical Settings

Physical illness and mental health are deeply interconnected. Being hospitalised for a medical or surgical condition can be highly stressful and may precipitate or exacerbate psychiatric symptoms.

Dr Rajcoomar provides specialist psychiatric consultations for patients admitted to general medical or surgical wards, working in liaison with the primary treating physicians and surgeons.

Consultation-liaison services address a wide range of complex clinical scenarios where physical and psychological health intersect.

  • Delirium and acute confusion states
  • Depression or anxiety related to chronic illness or diagnosis
  • Psychiatric complications of medical treatments
  • Assessment of decision-making capacity
  • Management of substance withdrawal in the general hospital
